On Friday 20 June 2025, Luxembourg's Ministry of Home Affairs assured there are no plans for border controls between the Grand Duchy and Belgium.

Following an exchange between Luxembourg's Minister for Home Affairs, Léon Gloden, and the Belgian Minister for Security and the Interior, Bernard Quintin, it was confirmed that there would be no border controls between the two countries. Minister Quintin also assured that there would also be no controls within Belgium near the Grand Duchy.

Conversely, Germany has tightened border controls in recent months.

Luxembourg recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Schengen Agreement, which laid the foundation for free movement across Europe.
