On Wednesday 9 July 2025, Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Xavier Bettel, held a bilateral meeting with the Director General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Pierre Krähenbühl.

The meeting was organised as part of the annual consultations between Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade and the ICRC.

According to the ministry, this meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of international humanitarian law. Minister Bettel deplored the proliferation of crises and the failure to respect international law by various actors. Director General Pierre Krähenbühl thanked Luxembourg for its continued support to the ICRC.

The ministry recalled that the ICRC is a long-standing partner of Luxembourg, having been the first organisation to sign an annual cooperation agreement with the country in 1999. Since then, it has become one of Luxembourg's main strategic and financial partners in the humanitarian field.
