On Friday 13 February 2026, the Luxembourg Ministry of Home Affairs and the Directorate-General for Immigration announced that the temporary protection scheme for Ukrainian refugees has once again been extended for a further year, until 4 March 2027.
The ministry said that in light of this extension, the biometric residence cards issued to beneficiaries of temporary protection, bearing an expiry date of Wednesday 4 March 2026 as proof of their status, must be renewed.
To this end, all beneficiaries received, between 28 November 2025 and 6 February 2026, a letter setting out the steps to follow in order to obtain a new biometric residence card.
Beneficiaries of temporary protection residing in Luxembourg whose protection expires on Wednesday 4 March 2026 and who have not received such a letter are requested to contact the Directorate-General for Immigration at: immigration.desk@mai.etat.lu.
The ministry said that it is important to underline that the replacement of biometric residence cards is necessary to ensure that the persons concerned can continue to benefit from the rights linked to temporary protection, such as the right to remain in Luxembourg, the right to work and the right to material assistance provided by the Luxembourg State.
