Pretzel Offered to Luxembourg City Officials Ahead of Bretzelsonndeg

On Tuesday 10 March 2026, the Bakers and Pastry Chefs Section of the food artisan association “Confédération Liewensmëttelhandwierk” offered a pretzel to the College of the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Luxembourg.

Traditionally in Luxembourg, young men offer a pretzel to the woman of their heart on “Bretzelsonndeg”, which will be celebrated this year on Sunday 15 March 2026. If the young woman reciprocates her suitor’s feelings, she gives him an Easter egg in return three weeks later on Easter Sunday.

With a few days to go before Bretzelsonndeg, the pretzel offering also provided an opportunity to highlight this long-standing tradition and the profession of baker and pastry chef.
