The Grand Ducal Police have reported that two men were arrested following separate incidents in Luxembourg City on Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 July 2026, involving an attempted violent theft and the assault of police officers.
On Monday afternoon, at around 14:45, police received a report of an attempted theft in Grand-Rue.
According to initial information, a man attempted to steal items from the shoulder bag of an elderly man. When the victim noticed the attempt and called for help, two witnesses intervened.
One of the witnesses tried to prevent the suspect, who was on a bicycle, from fleeing. However, the suspect broke free using force and escaped towards the city centre. A short time later, police stopped the suspect on Avenue de la Libertéand took him to a police station. During a body search, officers seized several items of clothing as well as a pair of sunglasses with their case.
On the instructions of the Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect was arrested and brought before an investigating judge. The seized items and the bicycle were confiscated.
On Tuesday, at around 14:30, an incident occurred during the release of a person from a holding cell at a police station in Luxembourg City.
The man kicked one police officer in the leg, spat in the face of another officer and subsequently made verbal threats against the officers.
The Public Prosecutor's Office was informed and ordered the suspect's arrest. He was brought before an investigating judge the following morning. A report was drawn up.
