On Friday 31 July 2026, the Grand Ducal Police issued advice after they had received numerous reports of a scam in which criminals posed as parcel delivery drivers.
According to the police, the scam usually begins with a phone call. Shortly afterwards, a supposed parcel courier arrives at the victim's home and demands a delivery fee for the package.
When the victim pays by bank card, the scammers hold the card against a mobile phone, ask the victim to enter their PIN, and then instruct them to confirm it by pressing a green button on the screen several times. After capturing the PIN, the fake delivery driver returns a similar-looking bank card to the victim, but one issued in someone else's name. Because the cards look so similar, victims usually do not notice that their card has been swapped.
The scammers then use the genuine stolen bank card to make purchases or withdraw large amounts of money.
The police also urged the public to inform and educate others, particularly older family members and neighbours, about this scam.
