Number of applicants for international protection in Luxembourg in July 2026;

On Friday 7 August 2026, the Directorate General of Immigration of Luxembourg’s Ministry of Home Affairs published its monthly overview of applications for international protection and temporary protection in the Grand Duchy for July 2026.
International Protection
A total of 122 people applied for international protection in Luxembourg in July 2026, compared to 150 in July 2025 and 151 in July 2024. Since the beginning of the year, Luxembourg has received 820 applications for international protection, down from the 1,049 during the same period in 2025
Authorities notified 148 decisions on international protection applications in July 2026, bringing the total number of decisions this year to 1,027. Of these, 45 resulted in the granting of refugee status, with six placed in subsidiary protection status. A total of 48 applications were rejected under the normal procedure, while twelve were rejected under the accelerated procedure.
According to the directorate, the highest number of applicants in June were from Eritrea (24), followed by Syria (20), Venezuela (15), Sudan (9), Somalia (6), Ukraine (6) and Morocco (5). Nationals from other countries accounted for 37 applications.
Temporary Protection
A total of 67 people applied for temporary protection in Luxembourg in July 2026, up from 43 in June. Since the beginning of the year, the country has received a total of 452 temporary protection applications.
Authorities took 70 decisions on temporary protection applications in July, bringing the total number of decisions this year to 4,073. Of these, 65 resulted in the granting of temporary protection, while none concerned renewals.
All applicants in July (67) were Ukrainian nationals. Ukrainian nationals have represented the vast majority of applicants for temporary protection so far this year, accounting for 441 out of 452 applications (95.9%).
