On Tuesday 11 August 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported a number of recent burglaries at residential properties in Senningerberg and Bettembourg, along with two muggings and multiple instances of shoplifting which occured in Luxembourg-Gare.
Burglaries
According to the police, they were notified of several burglaries at residential properties on Monday 10 August.
In one case, a resident of Rue Munsterbusch in Senningerberg discovered upon returning from holiday that their house had been burgled. According to initial findings, unknown offenders forcibly gained access to the property through a basement window and broke open an empty safe in the basement. Several bottles of high-value alcohol were also stolen.
Then, at around 19:00 on Monday, police received a report of another burglary, this time at an apartment building on Rue Auguste Collart in Bettembourg. According to initial findings, a window leading to the basement facilities had been smashed and several basement storage areas were searched. Among the items stolen were a bicycle, a floor lamp and an item of clothing.
Reports were filed in both cases and investigations have been launched.
Muggings
Police also were also notified on Monday 10 August of two necklace thefts which both happened in the Luxembourg-Gare area.
In one case, a man had his necklace stolen during the night of Saturday 8 August in the area around the railway station. The suspect initially approached the victim and then struck him on the back of the neck with an open hand. The victim subsequently noticed that his necklace was missing. During the investigation, a suspect was identified. However, an initial search for the suspect was unsuccessful.
Following this, at around 22:15 on Monday 10 August a similar incident occurred on Rue du Fort Neipperg. An unknown man approached a passer-by, kicked him in the leg and put an arm around him. He then struck the victim in the chest while simultaneously stealing his necklace. Here too, the victim only noticed the theft a short time later. The victim was not injured during the theft.
Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
Shoplifting
Moreover, on the afternoon of Monday 10 August, the police were notified of several shoplifting incidents at a store on Avenue de la Gare in Luxembourg-Gare
The first incident occurred at around 15:30. According to initial information, two men had stolen several bottles of perfume. Security staff detained the two suspected offenders until police arrived. Additional items of clothing were also found in the possession of one of the suspects, which initial findings indicated had previously been stolen from another store. The suspected stolen goods were seized and a report was filed.
Shortly afterwards, at around 17:30, security staff stopped another man. He had hidden two bottles of perfume in a shoulder bag and attempted to leave the store. A report was also filed in connection with this incident.
