On Tuesday 22 April 2026, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and gas control company Rotarex announced the launch of ALDACIA, a three-year research collaboration focused on developing advanced coatings for industrial gas valves.
The project builds on a previous collaboration between the two companies, which demonstrated the application of advanced coatings on the internal surfaces of industrial components operating in demanding environments.
Under the new project, the partners aim to develop a new class of innovative and multifunctional industrial coatings, while addressing the challenge of reliably treating complex three-dimensional internal substrates at industrial scale.
The partners explained that the name ALDACIA, an acronym for Advanced Coatings for Industrial Applications, also refers to an archaic Italian term meaning “boldness or audacity”. The partners added that it reflects the project’s aim to address complex challenges and to advance current industrial surface technologies.
Jurgen Joossens, Deputy CEO of LIST, said: “ALDACIA perfectly illustrates the type of industry-driven research carried out by LIST. By combining fundamental materials science with a clear industrial roadmap, this collaboration with Rotarex will generate innovations that are both scientifically significant and directly relevant to critical global markets, from microelectronics to clean hydrogen.”
Philippe Schmitz, Deputy CEO of Rotarex, added: “Semiconductor manufacturing processes are becoming more demanding each year. ALDACIA brings together Rotarex’s application expertise and LIST’s materials science to ensure that our gas control solutions remain ready to meet future challenges.”
