On Tuesday 13 October 2026, Luxembourg’s women’s national football team suffered their second consecutive friendly defeat, losing 4-0 to Montenegro in front of 605 spectators at the Stade Municipal de Rumelange.

Following a 1-0 away defeat to Malta on Friday 9 October 2026, the team coached by Cristina Correia and Daniel Zirbes made just one change to their starting line-up, with Emma Goetz replacing Lucie Schlime in goal.

Luxembourg endured a difficult start to the match, with Catarina Lavinas forced off through injury in the tenth minute and replaced by Gioia Fiorucci.

In the fifteenth minute, Montenegro took the lead when captain Armisa Kuč broke through behind the Luxembourg defence alongside a teammate, received the ball in front of goalkeeper Emma Goetz and finished into an empty net to make it 1-0 to the visitors.

Two minutes later, Medina Dešić doubled Montenegro's advantage to 2-0.

The visitors continued to control proceedings and added a third goal five minutes before half-time. Following a free-kick delivered into the penalty area, Medina Dešić found herself unmarked in front of Emma Goetz. The Luxembourg goalkeeper saved her initial effort, but Medina Dešić reacted quickest to the rebound and scored her second goal of the evening in the 40th minute to make it 3-0.

Reflecting on the first half, Luxembourg captain Laura Miller told Chronicle.lu: "I think in the first half we made a lot of individual mistakes against a team like this, and that cost us goals. I feel like we didn't put enough pressure on their defence, which allowed them to play every ball to their striker, who was good at holding up the ball and linking up with the midfield. It's frustrating because I think there was more in this game than the result suggests."

Luxembourg made two changes at half-time, with Andreia Faria and Barbara Serra replacing Ana Barbosa and Joana Lourenço, while Montenegro also changed their goalkeeper.

The visitors came close to extending their lead in the 48th minute when Anđela Tošković broke into the penalty area from the left wing, but sent her effort wide of the far post.

Montenegro added a fourth goal a minute later. Following a foul by Emma Kremer on the left wing, the visitors delivered a free-kick into the Luxembourg penalty area. Goalkeeper Emma Goetz was unable to gather the ball and, after several unsuccessful attempts to clear it, the ball deflected off Andreia Faria and into the net to make it 4-0.

Luxembourg registered an effort on goal in the 62nd minute, but Montenegro's goalkeeper Ajša Kalać gathered the ball at the second attempt.

In the 67th minute, Emma Goetz made a save to deny Jelena Karličić, who struck from a tight angle.

Cristina Correia and Daniel Zirbes made three substitutions in the 68th minute, introducing Charlotte Schmit, Liane Freymann and Charlie Jorge in place of Gioia Fiorucci, Emma Kremer and Hannah Dietrich.

The Luxembourg goalkeeper was called into action again in the 80th minute, denying Jasna Đoković from close range.

Luxembourg also threatened following a corner delivered by captain Laura Miller. Montenegro initially cleared the ball, but Charlotte Schmit collected the rebound on the edge of the penalty area and directed an effort into the goalkeeper's hands.

Montenegro then made four substitutions, while Luxembourg introduced Rachel Kirps and Carolina Barbosa in place of Kimberley Dos Santos and Anna Miny in the 82nd minute.

Two minutes later, Luxembourg captain Laura Miller came close to reducing the deficit with a free-kick from the left edge of the penalty area, but her effort towards the far top corner went narrowly wide.

In the 90th minute, Charlotte Schmit tried her luck from long range, but her effort lacked power and was comfortably gathered by Ajša Kalać.

Neither side added to the score in the closing stages, with Luxembourg suffering a 4-0 defeat to Montenegro and ending their two-match friendly series without a goal.

Speaking about the team's development, Laura Miller added: "We are a young team. I think our average age is 20 or something like that. There's still a lot we can figure out, and we need a lot of experience to go into League C as well. It's good that we have some games now to figure things out.” She added: “Of course, the loss of Amy [Thompson] and Andrea [Machado] is hard, as you could see today. We are missing someone up front who is a killer in front of goal."
