Ahead of European Testing Week, the Luxembourg Red Cross has announced it will offer blood tests at various locations across the Grand Duchy from Monday 18 to Monday 25 May 2026.
Initiated in 2013 by the HIV in Europe movement, European Testing Week aims to raise awareness among the population about the importance of HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing, to encourage people to assess the risks to which they may have been exposed and to remind them of the effectiveness of available treatments. Throughout the week, testing will be offered at different locations across the country.
Every year, the Luxembourg Red Cross participates in this European initiative with its HIV Berodung, DIMPS, dropIn and Pass-By services, with the common objective to remind people that testing is a simple, essential and accessible step for everyone.
“The only way today to know whether someone is living with HIV, syphilis or hepatitis C is through testing. Many of these infections are asymptomatic, which is why regular testing is important,” remarked Laurence Mortier, Head of Service at HIV Berodung of the Luxembourg Red Cross.
The Luxembourg Red Cross highlighted that testing allows rapid and effective care. Once an infection is detected, treatments are available and the majority of STIs can be cured. In the case of HIV, treatment now makes it possible for the viral load to become undetectable and for HIV no longer to be transmitted during sexual relations. The organisation said it is estimated that a significant number of people are living with HIV without knowing it, highlighting the crucial importance of regular testing.
In collaboration with several partners, the Luxembourg Red Cross is organising special activities at different locations in order to reach people where they are and offer access to testing in complete discretion.
