On Saturday 28 March 2026, the Luxembourg Paralympic Committee (LPC) reported on the participation of Luxembourg athletes Matteo Scuto, Philippe Hein and Roby Mangen at the ITTF World Para Future Costa Brava, held in Platja d'Aro (Spain), from Thursday 26 to Friday 27 March 2026.
The LPC said Matteo Scuto stood out with an impressive performance, qualifying for the quarter-finals of an international competition for the first time in his career. The qualification was secured thanks to a decisive victory in his third group match, which he won 3–1 against the Polish player ranked number 15 in the world.
The LPC noted that during the tournament, he faced several high-level opponents, including Austria’s Krisztian Gardos (world number 7). In the quarter-finals, he was defeated by Spain’s Marlon Lopez (world number 13) by 3–0.
The Committee said this represented an important step in his sporting development and a positive sign for the rest of his career.
Matteo Scuto said: “I clearly felt that the work done in training recently is paying off. The aspects I focused on in particular worked well in competition. It is a very positive sign and motivates me even more for my future training.”
Luxembourg’s other representatives, Philippe Hein and Roby Mangen, were eliminated in the group stage. Philippe Hein won one set in his second match against China’s Hongshuo Ren. He faced strong opponents, including Poland’s Igor Misztal (world number 9) and Spain’s José Manuel Ruiz (world number 14). Roby was also defeated in his group matches.
The LPC said the international competition enabled all three athletes to gain valuable experience against high-level opponents and to continue their development in a demanding context.
The Luxembourg Paralympic Committee congratulates Matteo Scuto on this first qualification for the quarter-finals, as well as Philippe Hein and Roby Mangen for their commitment and participation.
