On Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 May 2026, Matteo Scuto and Philippe Hein, athletes from the Luxembourg Paralympic Committee (LPC), competed at the ITTF World Para Challenger Lasko 2026 in Slovenia in Class 10 para table tennis.
According to LPC, the two Luxembourg athletes were drawn into particularly strong groups featuring several players ranked among the world top fifteen in the category. In para table tennis, Class 10 is reserved for standing athletes with the lowest eligible level of physical impairment.
On Tuesday, Matteo Scuto (40th in the world rankings) faced Austria’s Krisztian Gardos, currently ranked eighth in the world, while Philippe Hein (57th in the world rankings) played against France’s Mateo Boheas, ranked fifth in the world. Both Luxembourg athletes lost 3-0.
Their second matches took place on Wednesday. Matteo Scuto faced Montenegro’s Luka Bakic, ranked twelfth in the world, while Philippe Hein played Spain’s Jose Manuel Ruiz, currently ranked fourteenth. Both Luxembourg players were again defeated 3-0.
Matteo Scuto and Philippe Hein were therefore eliminated in the group stage. Several of their opponents progressed to the latter stages of the tournament, with France’s Mateo Boheas defeating Austria’s Krisztian Gardos in the Class 10 final on Thursday 7 May 2026.
LPC added that the tournament nevertheless provided both Luxembourg athletes with valuable international experience against some of the strongest players in their category.
