Rugby Club (RC) Walferdange “De Renert” has announced an open day combining introductory rugby activities with a family treasure hunt exploring the history of the municipality, set to take place on Saturday 19 September 2026 at the club's grounds in Rue de l'Alzette in Helmsange.
The club said the event aims to introduce its activities to a wider audience while highlighting rugby values both on and off the pitch, including teamwork, commitment, solidarity and conviviality. The event is open to all ages and participation is free of charge.
From 10:00 to 12:00, the club's Rugby School will welcome children aged three to eleven for a series of introductory activities, including passing, running, team games and their first encounters with a rugby ball.
The activities are open both to beginners and children who already have some rugby experience. Club coaches will be available to meet families, present the Rugby School and provide information about the different opportunities to join the club.
Another highlight of the day will be "L'Épopée du Rugby", a family treasure hunt in the form of a puzzle rally. It is open to all families, regardless of whether they take part in the morning's rugby activities.
The adventure will draw on the story of Christophe Stoltz, the first mayor of Walferdange when the municipality was established in 1851, while also incorporating a reference to the birthplace of rugby, the renowned Rugby School.
Equipped with an illustrated booklet, each group will have to observe their surroundings, search for clues, solve puzzles and work together at several notable locations around Walferdange to piece together a secret code.
The rally will take families on a route through Walferdange combining puzzles with discoveries related to local heritage. Both the starting and finishing points will be at the RC Walferdange rugby ground.
According to the club, the activity is intended to bring rugby values such as playing together, commitment and solidarity beyond the pitch, while giving participants an opportunity to discover or rediscover the municipality.
After returning to the rugby ground, participants will be able to enjoy an inflatable rodeo, inflatable castle and other games, as well as drinks and light refreshments.
RC Walferdange President Zelito Neves said: "We wanted to open our doors differently, by introducing people to both our club and the history of our municipality. Rugby, games and heritage brought together for the whole family."
