The Confucius Institute at the University of Luxembourg has announced a screening of the documentary "The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru" (with English subtitles) on Monday 29 September 2025 from 17:30 (screening starts at 18:00) at the Cercle Cité in Luxembourg City.
The event, held as a prelude to the Chinese Cinema Cycle returning in October 2025, will present the documentary directed by Fang Li, Ming Fan and Lily Gong. Over seven years, the filmmakers traced the wreckage and interviewed families, uncovering long-buried accounts of Japanese brutality, the suffering of Allied prisoners of war and the courage of Chinese fishermen who risked their lives to rescue survivors.
