Luxembourg Air Rescue (LAR) were called to the rescue this Wednesday of a British woman who was attacked by a shark off Ascension Island suffering severe bite injuries to her leg. The woman was saved by her husband, who punched the shark to fend it off.

Without any other flight services in place thanks to travel chaos in the region and damaged airport infrastructure on Ascension Island, LAR were called in to repatriate the woman on a difficult journey that required several legs before they could get her to the Obstetric Hospital in London.

This is the third time that LAR has repatriated patients from Ascension Island.

LAR has been active in the field of air rescue and repatriation of ill or injured members from abroad for more than 29 years and has specialised in saving the lives of people in need and maintaining their health. It currently operates five rescue helicopters and five ambulances, and flies about 3,000 rescue missions each year.
