Originally from Japan, FANUC Corporation is the international leader in industrial automation systems with its European headquarters in Echternach; today, FANUC announced it is growing its presence in the Grand Duchy and is establishing its new European Distribution Centre in Contern.

Established for several decades in Luxembourg, Europe FANUC Corporation SA today employs nearly 220 people here. The Japanese robotics manufacturer offers a complete range of services to its European subsidiaries with their 1,200 employees, including in the areas of product support, supply chain and spare parts.

FANUC is transferring its European storage centre and distribution robots - currently based in the Netherlands - to Luxembourg. The logistics warehouse with an area of ​​20,000 m2 will be established from 2017 in the area of the "Eurohub Center" in Contern. A quarter of the area will be dedicated to logistics value-added activities such as configuring robots before shipment to the end customer.

The President and CEO of FANUC Corporation Europe SA, Olaf Gehrels, said "We have been huided by the German Fraunhofer comparative analysis to determine which site is the most economically advantageous for us. With choices between Stuttgart, Gdansk and Rotterdam, we opted for Luxembourg. The geographic location and the infrastructure has clearly influenced our choice to consolidate all of our logistics activities in the Grand Duchy, near our headquarters in Echternach and services are available for our group."

Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Etienne Schneider said "In recent years, the Japanese robotics manufacturer has invested heavily to strengthen its activities in Luxembourg. Our economic mission in October 2014 in Japan and our meeting with Yoshiharu Inaba, president and CEO of FANUC, were an important step in the decision process to bring their European distribution centre to the Grand Duchy. FANUC's decision confirms the attractiveness of the Luxembourg logistics hub, particularly for value-added activities."

Since 2013, about 100,000 m2 of logistics space has been built or is being completed in Luxembourg. This includes the CFL Multimodal central warehouse, the first S.O.L.E.I.L. warehouse rented to Ampacet and the Transalliance logistics building on the "Eurohub South" site in Bettembourg / Dudelange. All projects since 2013 total an investment amount of approximately €135 million.

A temporary solution in being used in Findel until the news faciliyt will be ready, with already 1,000 pallets of robotics equipment already there at the beginning of theis month.
