Luxembourg has been selected as the guest country at the sixteenth edition of the Q-Day Conference, which is taking place at Culturgest in Lisbon, Portugal, on Tuesday 16 September 2025 from 09:00 to 18:00.
The hybrid event will also be available via online streaming for those who prefer - or are only able - to follow the event remotely.
After two editions focused on the transformative power of generative artificial intelligence (AI), Q-Day is returning with a new theme: "Solutions for Europe".
According to organiser Quidgest, this edition calls Portugal to action, urging the country to step out of its comfort zone and assert its technology, talent and vision beyond borders. This year's Q-Day Conference thus challenges companies, public institutions and leaders to demonstrate the value of their solutions in building a more cohesive, sovereign and competitive Europe - one capable not only of surviving but also of leading and thriving in today's unstable world order.
The programme features three thematic panels, with prominent speakers from the fields of politics, science, technology, economics and education (among others) discussing how to translate European potential into real impact. Central themes include strategic autonomy, the industrialisation of innovation, the energy transition and the promotion of talent.
"Europe needs to think strategically and act coherently. It is not enough to discuss the challenges and diagnoses of the Draghi, Letta and Heitor reports. We must present concrete solutions, invest in the best technological options and empower leaders capable of paving the way for action," said João Paulo Carvalho, co-founder and senior partner at Quidgest. "That is what this Q-Day aims to do: bring together those who know, those who do and those who want to do better."
This year's guest country, Luxembourg, is described by the organisers as "the institutional birthplace of the EU". Although one of the smallest countries in Europe, it is also seen as one of the most strategic. A founding member of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), it is still home to several major EU institutions.
The organisers highlighted the Grand Duchy's open economy, central location in Europe and world-leading GDP per capita (€118,770 in 2023). The Luxembourg-focused session (taking place in English at 15:30) will be an opportunity to deepen ties between Portugal and Luxembourg, promote technological collaboration and explore new ways to strengthen the European project.
"This choice reinforces the historical and cultural connection between Portugal and Luxembourg, which is also reflected in the fact that around 15% of the Luxembourgish population is of Portuguese origin," noted João Paulo Carvalho. "In the case of Quidgest, it is also a country with which we have been strengthening strategic relations, on a path of growing collaboration in the areas of innovation and digital transformation. Our connection to this ecosystem is natural, as we share values, ambition and a European vision of progress with impact."
The Q-Day Conference 2025 programme also includes the Co-Innovation Awards ceremony. These awards are Quidgest's recognition of and tribute to pioneers, visionaries and those leading digital transformation in Portugal and around the world. More than a distinction, the awards are a celebration of collective intelligence and of those who believe that innovation is only truly transformative when it is born out of co-creation, the sharing of ideas and the desire to do better.
