On Saturday 30 August 2025, Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Xavier Bettel, took part in the informal “Gymnich” meeting of the foreign ministers of the European Union in Copenhagen.

According to Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Cooperation and Foreign Trade, the first session focused on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, with the participation of the foreign ministers of Iceland, Norway and the United Kingdom. The ministers discussed possible measures to increase pressure on Russia and support Ukraine.

The second session addressed Russian assets, while the third discussion centred on the Middle East, covering the war in the Gaza Strip as well as the situation in Iran.
