On Thursday 19 February 2026, Film Fund Luxembourg issued a statement in which it reflected on a "strong Luxembourg presence" at this year's Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) and European Film Market (EFM).

At the 76th Berlinale and the 2026 EFM, Film Fund Luxembourg took advantage of its presence to strengthen its international partnerships, support new forms of creation and showcase Luxembourg's expertise. This edition was marked from the outset by the selection of three Luxembourg co-productions, which Film Fund Luxembourg said highlighted the country's dynamism on the international film scene.

The three films co-produced by Amour Fou Luxembourg - directed respectively by Koxi (Liebhaberinnen), Ulrike Ottinger (Die Blutgräfin - The Blood Countess) and Mahnaz Mohammadi (Roya) - were presented in the Forum, Berlinale Special Gala and Panorama sections. They are said to illustrate "the diversity, creativity and boldness of the talents" supported by Film Fund Luxembourg.

Several Luxembourg projects were also represented in various sections of the EFM market. According to the film fund, this presence in Berlin is further proof of the international recognition of the Luxembourg film industry. Guy Daleiden, Director of Film Fund Luxembourg, elaborated: "Exchanges at the European Film Market, a unique B2B space where crucial collaborations for the future of our industry are forged, along with the visibility offered by the selection of three Luxembourg co-productions, reinforce Luxembourg’s position as a reliable partner, fully committed to European creative dynamics. These moments are essential for supporting our talent and developing new opportunities for cooperation."

Film Fund Luxembourg added that it had participated in two major initiatives: the first edition of the EFM Animation Days, during which two Luxembourg co-productions - Granny is a Tree (Doghouse Films) and Red Zone (a_BAHN) - were presented; and the launch of EFM Beyond's XR programme, focused on networking and exchanges around immersive formats. An initial informal assessment of this programme will be shared at Immersive Days 2026 in Luxembourg. In parallel, Luxembourg's presence was reportedly strengthened at the Berlinale Co-Production Market thanks to the selection of The Last Frontier by Argentinian filmmaker Rodrigo Moreno, co-produced by Les Films Fauves.

Moreover, Film Fund Luxembourg participated in several working meetings, notably with its partners from French- and German-speaking public funds and members of EFAD ("the voice" of national European Film Agencies), focusing on current trends and challenges such as the revision of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD), the evolution of the AgoraEU programme and the issues related to integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the audiovisual sector.

Film Fund Luxembourg noted that the activities of the European Solidarity Fund for Ukrainian Films (ESFUF) constituted a significant part of the presence in Berlin. The film fund met with Ukrainian professional and institutional representatives, including the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Culture for European Integration, Natalia Movshovych, and the Head of the Ukrainian State Film Agency, Andriy Osipov, to assess the sector's needs and support projects currently in production. ESFUF was officially renewed for 2026, confirming the continued European commitment to Ukrainian filmmaking, added Film Fund Luxembourg.

The film fund also highlighted the presence of Luxembourg's Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Minister for Culture Eric Thill. The ministers participated in several discussions with representatives of the sector and attended the traditional reception at the Embassy of Luxembourg in Berlin.
