The Luxembourg Chamber of Agriculture and Horesca, a non-profit organisation representing the hotel, restaurant, catering and canteen sectors in Luxembourg, recently signed a cooperation agreement aimed at promoting the use of local products in restaurants across the Grand Duchy.
The agreement is considered a step forward in strengthening support for local agricultural production and increasing the visibility of Luxembourg’s culinary sector. As reported by the partners, it seeks to foster closer cooperation between domestic producers and restaurant operators, encouraging the inclusion of more Luxembourgish products in menus. The initiative also aims to raise consumer awareness about the “quality and variety” of national agricultural goods, while contributing to the country’s food resilience and sovereignty.
Horesca President, Alain Rix, stated: “The signing of this agreement marks an important milestone in the promotion of our gastronomic and agricultural heritage. As restaurant owners, we play a key role in supporting the local economy and highlighting exceptional local products. This partnership with the Chamber of Agriculture allows us to further this effort and offer our clients an authentic, sustainable and distinctly Luxembourgish culinary experience.”
President of the Chamber of Agriculture, Christian Hahn, added: “This initiative is a valuable opportunity for Luxembourg’s agricultural producers to see their know-how recognised in restaurants. By working with Horesca, we are strengthening the impact of our ‘Sou Schmaacht Lëtzebuerg’ campaign and fostering a virtuous cycle where the quality of local products meets the creativity of chefs. This agreement is one more step towards stronger food sovereignty and sustainable agriculture.”
The agreement includes concrete actions such as increasing awareness of the “Sou Schmaacht Lëtzebuerg” campaign (aimed at promoting local food products) among chefs, as well as organising training, tasting events and adjusting campaign criteria to “better promote local producers”.
According to the Chamber of Agriculture and Horesca, the collaboration supports local economic and agricultural development and aims to enhance the visibility of Luxembourgish gastronomy both nationally and internationally.
