On Monday 6 July 2026, Luxembourg's Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity announced the launch of a new Action Plan for Segetal Flora, setting out ten objectives and 88 measures to protect threatened arable plant species.

The plan was presented by the Intermunicipal Association for Nature Conservation (Sicona) in Kopstal, in the presence of Luxembourg’s Minister for the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, Serge Wilmes.

According to the ministry, the initiative aims to support segetal flora, wild plant species that grow alongside agricultural crops. These plants play an important role in protecting soil and water quality while providing habitats and food sources for pollinating insects and other wildlife.

The initiative forms part of Luxembourg's third National Nature Protection Plan (PNPN3), the country's strategic framework for nature conservation until 2030. The ministry added that the Environmental Protection Fund will finance its implementation, with the aim of strengthening the long-term conservation of threatened arable flora and the ecosystems that depend on it.
