On Friday 21 August 2026, Luxembourg’s annual Schueberfouer funfair officially opened its 686th edition, with the traditional ceremony taking place at the fair's longstanding venue Champ du Glacis.

The fair was officially opened by Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer, with Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, Luxembourg City Chief Alderman Maurice Bauer, Luxembourg’s Minister for Defence and Minister for Mobility and Public Works Yuriko Backes, and Luxembourg City Alderman Patrick Goldschmidt among the dignitaries in attendance.

Continuing the annual tradition, the opening also featured Lämmy, the Schueberfouer’s mascot, a sheep dressed in traditional 19th-century blue peasant clothing. Lämmy greeted visitors and posed for photographs with families.

After Mayor Polfer performed the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, the group proceeded on a tour of the fairground, led by the traditional parade of five sheep - a nod to the fair’s historic roots as a cattle and animal market.

They then enjoyed several traditional amusement rides, such as the Venetian Carousel and Bellevue Ferris Wheel, before heading to one of the restaurants at the fairground.

The annual Schueberfouer, Luxembourg's largest funfair, combines longstanding tradition with amusement rides, games, food and drink stands and other attractions. The 2026 edition will keep running until Wednesday 9 September 2026, with 214 attractions and stands (one more than last year). The fair is open daily from 12:00 to 01:00, while food establishments may open from 11:00.

According to the City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL), this year's Schueberfouer features eight new attractions, and will host two Family Days. The first, on Wednesday 26 August, will offer reduced prices on rides, games and other attractions, while the second, on Wednesday 2 September, will feature reduced prices at restaurants, takeaway stands and confectionery stalls.

The VdL has put special transport arrangements in place for the duration of the fair. Tram services will operate every five to ten minutes until approximately 02:00, while between Theater and Faïencerie, trams will run on a single track at a reduced speed until Saturday 12 September 2026.

On the final day, Wednesday 9 September, rides, games and attractions will be offered at half price until 20:00. The event will conclude with its traditional fireworks display over the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge at 22:00, before closing at 01:00.

The Schueberfouer is considered the largest annual funfair in Luxembourg and the Greater Region. Further information on this year's programme can be found at https://www.vdl.lu/en/visiting/leisure-and-recreation/festivals-fairs-and-events/schueberfouer-2026/programme.
