On Monday 17 August 2026, Luxembourg's Government Council announced that no further measures are planned in response to the impact on Luxembourg of the wildfire in the High Fens in eastern Belgium.

Chaired by Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden, the meeting concluded that no additional measures were currently being considered, as the measures already in place were deemed appropriate to the situation.

The government added that it remained mobilised and was continuing to closely monitor developments. In case of further upcoming measures, the authorities said they would communicate them through the usual official channels.

Earlier on Monday, Luxembourg's Interministerial Assessment Unit reported that smoke from the wildfire had temporarily affected air quality in the Grand Duchy, with PM10 fine particle concentrations exceeding the daily alert threshold. Authorities expected the situation to gradually improve from Tuesday 18 August 2026, as changing wind conditions might help disperse smoke and fine particles.

The wildfire, which broke out on Friday 14 August 2026, has burned around 3,000 hectares in the High Fens. Luxembourg previously deployed eleven firefighters and three all-terrain fire engines to assist the Belgian emergency services.
