On Friday 27 June 2025, the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture issued a statement urging vigilance for animal welfare amid the current summer heat.

ALVA called on owners of domestic and livestock (farm) animals to follow these good practices to protect animals' well-being:

  • ensure animals have access to sufficient water at all times;
  • never leave animals, even for a short time, in parked vehicles exposed to the sun;
  • do not subject animals to excessive physical activity during the hottest hours of the day;
  • during a prolonged heatwave, animals kept outdoors must have adequate natural or artificial shelter from the sun.

ALVA also reminded the public that anyone with concerns or questions relating to animal welfare - or wishing to report suspected animal neglect - can reach out to the dedicated contact point via email: help@deier.lu
