The Grand Ducal Police have reported that, on Saturday 29 July 2023, they arrested two suspects following an armed raid on a bakery in the border region of Belgium.
The police were notified at around 14:15 on Saturday afternoon of the incident across the border in Belgium. Luxembourg police patrols searched for the getaway car in the Luxembourg border area and were able to locate it a short time later on the A6 motorway near Bertrange. They stopped the car and both occupants were immobilised.
During the subsequent search of the vehicle, a loaded revolver and cash, among other things, were discovered and confiscated. By order of the public prosecutor's office, the two suspects were arrested, the getaway car and the objects relevant to the crime were confiscated.
The two suspects were brought before the examining magistrate.
The Belgian authorities initiated a European arrest warrant.
