The Grand Ducal Police have confirmed that, on Tuesday 1 August 2023, they arrested a man in Esch-sur-Alzette for the possession of a loaded revolver.
They responded to a call at around 09:15 concerning a man who was spotted with a firearm on the Rue Large in the city. The police dispatched a unit and found the man and immobilised him. They then discovered a loaded gun in the man's car.
According to initial information, the man is said to have fired two shots that just missed a young passer-by who then fled. According to witnesses, other passers-by were also targeted, including a woman with a baby stroller. Nobody was hurt.
The alleged perpetrator was arrested by order of the public prosecutor. Since the man had previously been driving under the influence of alcohol, his driver's license was also revoked.
He is to be brought before a judge this afternoon.
In order to clarify the course of events, the police are looking for witnesses, in particular the young passer-by who fled - they are described as being about 16 years old, dressed in red and the woman with the baby stroller, as well as other people who may have relevant information.
