The City of Luxembourg (VdL) has officially launched the artistic project My Urban Piano “Luxembourg”, which places seventeen pianos in public spaces across the city, including streets, tourist spots, neighbourhoods and parks.

The project, which runs until Tuesday 17 June 2025, was launched by the VdL on Thursday 15 May 2025, in front of the Cercle Cité on Place d’Armes in Luxembourg-Ville. At the launch event, attended by the College of the Mayor and Aldermen, two students from the music conservatory in Esch-sur-Alzette (Conservatoire de Musique de la Ville d'Esch-sur-Alzette), Eleonora Bernardin and Louis-Gautier Bernardin, performed two pieces by Bach - Badinerie and Toccata.

Each of the pianos located across the city has been decorated by partners from community, artistic and educational backgrounds, turning them into standalone works of art that are designed to blend into their urban surroundings. The VdL has encouraged everyone - from amateur pianists to experienced musicians - to use the pianos to “perform impromptu mini-concerts and fill the city with piano melodies”.

The VdL has also announced a series of concerts which are scheduled to take place at various locations across the city:

⁃             Saturday 24 May - Centre du Rham, 16:00 to 17:30: students from the Luxembourg City Conservatoire;

⁃             Sunday 25 May - Centre du Rham, 15:00 to 16:30: Fernande Pletschette (Luxembourgish folk music);

⁃             Wednesday 4 June - Parc Edmond Klein, 12:00 to 14:00: Fernande Pletschette (Luxembourgish folk music);

⁃             Sunday 8 June - Centre du Rham, 15:00 to 16:30: students from the Union Grand-Duc Adolphe music school;

⁃             Sunday 29 June - Place d’Armes, 15:00 to 17:00: closing concert (classical) by students from the keyboard classes of the Luxembourg City Conservatoire, conducted by Nicolas Marzinotto.

The VdL has also reported there will be a series of spontaneous performances which will take place across the duration of the project. These will be announced on the VdL’s social media platforms.

Moreover, the VdL has made a call for “video enthusiasts” to record videos of people playing the pianos and to upload them onto Facebook or YouTube, using the hashtags #luxembourgcity and #myurbanpiano2025. Participants can win VdL shopping vouchers worth €400, €200 and €150. There are two entry categories: “musical performance” and “creative piano-themed video.” To enter, participants should send a link to the video, along with the name of the person who filmed it, their address and phone number via email to: concours@vdl.lu.
