On Friday 11 July 2025, the Directorate of Immigration of Luxembourg's Ministry of Home Affairs published figures regarding applications for international protection (asylum) and temporary protection in the Grand Duchy in June 2025.

International Protection

A total of 106 people applied for international protection in Luxembourg in June 2025 (compared to 171 in May 2025 and 109 in June 2024). To date this year, Luxembourg has received a total of 899 applications for international protection - up from 827 received during the first half of 2024.

125 decisions on asylum applications were taken in June, with 60 applicants being granted refugee status (61 in May).

In June, most applicants were Eritrean nationals (24), followed by those from Afghanistan (nine) and Colombia (seven). So far in 2025, most applications have come from Eritrean nationals (159), followed by Syrian (129), Algerian (64) and Colombian (48) nationals.

Temporary Protection

A total of 87 people applied for temporary protection in Luxembourg in June 2025 (up from 58 in May). So far this year, Luxembourg has received a total of 473 such applications.

A total of 79 decisions on temporary protection applications were taken in June, with 72 applicants being granted this status in Luxembourg (51 in May).

Most applicants in June (75) were Ukrainian nationals; five applicants came from Armenia and seven came from unspecified countries. Ukrainians have also represented the largest group (424) among applicants for temporary protection so far this year. Moreover, there have been applications from nineteen Algerian nationals, seven Moroccan nationals, five Armenian nationals and eighteen nationals of other unspecified countries in the first half of the year.
