Number of applicants for international protection;

On Monday 11 August 2025, the Directorate of Immigration of Luxembourg's Ministry of Home Affairs published figures regarding applications for international protection (asylum) and temporary protection in the Grand Duchy in July 2025.

International Protection

A total of 149 people applied for international protection in Luxembourg in July 2025 (compared to 106 in June 2025 and 150 in July 2024). To date this year, Luxembourg has received a total of 1,048 applications for international protection - up from 978 received during the first seven months of 2024.

Authorities took 174 decisions on asylum applications in July, with 74 applicants being granted refugee status (60 in June).

In July, most applicants were Eritrean nationals (nineteen), followed by Turkish and Venezuelan nationals (sixteen each), plus Ukrainians (twelve) and Syrians (ten).

So far in 2025, most applications have come from Eritrean nationals (178), followed by Syrian (139), Algerian (66) and Turkish (51) nationals.

Temporary Protection

A total of 111 people applied for temporary protection in Luxembourg in July 2025 (up from 87 in June). So far this year, Luxembourg has received a total of 584 such applications.

Authorities took 110 decisions on temporary protection applications in July, with 97 applicants being granted this status in Luxembourg (72 in June).

Most applicants in July (103) were Ukrainian nationals; eight applicants came from other unspecified countries.

Ukrainians have also represented the largest group (527) among applicants for temporary protection so far this year. Moreover, there have been applications from 22 Algerian nationals, eight Moroccan nationals, six Armenian nationals and 21 nationals of other unspecified countries.
