The Grand Ducal Police have reported several drug-related and traffic incidents in recent days, including at the e-Lake Festival in Echternach last weekend.
As part of this open-air music festival, the police, together with customs authorities, conducted several checks focusing on drug legislation, among other things. A total of 37 violations were identified: in eighteen cases a formal report was drawn up, while in nineteen cases fines were issued.
In addition, the police carried out a breathalyser check on Rue Alferweiher in Echternach on the orders of the public prosecutor. Of the 163 drivers tested, five returned positive results and two reports were issued.
In a separate case, on Monday 11 August 2025, police seized various drugs, jackknifes, blank cartridges and drug paraphernalia from a young man in Bertrange, following a report of a drug discovery in a shared apartment. On the order of the public prosecutor, all items were confiscated and the suspect was arrested. He was brought before an investigating judge the next morning.
Several other offences were recorded this week. On the afternoon of Tuesday 12 August 2025, a vehicle was reported for repeatedly crossing into oncoming traffic on Boulevard Charles de Gaulle in Esch-sur-Alzette. A police patrol stopped the driver shortly afterwards. A breathalyser test returned a positive result and the driver's licence was revoked.
Later that evening, on Rue d'Audun in Esch-sur-Alzette, a police patrol noticed a driver change direction upon spotting the officers. The vehicle was stopped and both the driver and passenger were searched. Officers recovered counterfeit money from the two individuals and found that they had presented fake driver's licences. Reports were drawn up, and the counterfeit money, licences and vehicle were confiscated.
During a traffic stop in Winseler on the night of Tuesday 12 to Wednesday 13 August 2025, officers detected the smell of cannabis while inspecting a vehicle. The on-site drug test on the driver was positive, and a report was drawn up. Officers also seized cannabis and drug paraphernalia from one of the passengers, leading to a second report.
