The Grand Ducal Police have reported that they carried out alcohol impairment across Luxembourg on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 April 2026, which resulted in multiple fines being issued and several driving licences being withdrawn.

Checks were performed on Saturday 25 April on Boulevard Joseph II and Place Winston Churchill in Luxembourg-Ville between the hours of 22:30 and 23:30, on Sunday 26 April on the CR159 in Hesperange between the hours of 00:30 and 13:30 and on Boulevard de Kockelscheuer in Luxembourg-Gasperich between the hours of 02:30 and 03:30.

These checks were undertaken at the request of the State Prosecutor, as provided for by Article 12, paragraph 3, subparagraph 8 of the amended law of 14 February 1955 on the regulation of traffic on all public roads.

A total of 154 drivers were subjected to preliminary breathalyser tests, even in the absence of any serious indication of a problem.

In nine cases, the test was positive, resulting in officers issuing five citations and four fines.

One driver's licence was confiscated on the spot.

The police also reported that at approximately 20:00 on Saturday 25 April they received a report of a person whose vehicle had struck the guardrails, a sign and a wall between Bridel and Kopstal. Upon arrival, officers found the driver and the damaged vehicle. A breathalyser test returned a positive result and the driver's licence was confiscated. The vehicle was towed and a report was filed.

That same evening, police received a report of a person driving under the influence of alcohol. A patrol located the individual in Frisingen. A breathalyser test returned a positive result and the vehicle was impounded, the driver's licence confiscated and a report was filed.

Moreover, at approximately 22:30 on Saturday 25 April a patrol noticed a vehicle driving erratically on Rue Bender in Luxembourg-Gare. During the traffic stop, the driver showed signs of alcohol consumption. The breathalyser test was positive and the driver's licence was confiscated. A report was filed.
