The Grand Ducal Police have reported that in the early hours of Friday 1 May 2026, a road traffic accident occurred on the A1 motorway near the Howald tunnel, which forced the closure of two lanes.
According to the police, at approximately 05:30 on Friday, a road traffic accident occurred on the A1 motorway in the direction of Howald, around two kilometres before the Howald tunnel where a car collided with a camper van, causing it to skid and overturn onto its side.
As a result of the accident, both lanes were blocked, leading to significant traffic disruption. No persons were injured.
Alcohol consumption was detected in the driver of the vehicle responsible for the accident, and a report was drawn up.
The police have said that the overtaking lane will remain closed until further notice, as repairs to the crash barrier take place.
