The Grand Ducal Police have confirmed that a serious accident at the European Hill Race in Eschdorf on Sunday 3 May 2026 resulted in one fatality.
At approximately 10:10 on Sunday, a serious accident occurred on the race track near Eschdorf. According to the police, a race car collided with the track barrier, injuring several people. Initial reports indicated that the driver and two track marshals were injured. One of the marshals sustained serious injuries.
Emergency services, including two rescue helicopters and several ambulances, were immediately dispatched to the scene. The seriously injured marshal was airlifted to hospital after receiving initial treatment at the scene. Later that day, the police confirmed that the 48-year-old woman had died in hospital.
The race car driver was transported to hospital by ambulance after receiving medical attention. The second marshal reportedly sustained minor injuries.
Due to concerns over track safety, race control decided to cancel the event and suspend further racing on the track. Psychological support was offered on-site to those affected and witnesses of the accident.
The exact cause of the accident remains unclear, the police said. The race car has been impounded and the investigation is ongoing.
