On Thursday 18 June 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported that two suspects were arrested following a violent assault in Luxembourg-Gare and a man was detained after a physical altercation with police officers in Canach.
According to the initial information, during the early hours of Thursday 18 June, the police received a report of an attempted robbery in Luxembourg-Gare where two suspects allegedly attempted to steal a handbag.
According to initial information, the victim and a companion were on Rue du Fort Wallis when one of the suspects snatched the victim’s handbag and attempted to flee. The companion managed to catch up with the suspect, resulting in a struggle between the two. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly produced a knife. The victim and the companion subsequently fled the scene. The victim’s companion sustained minor injuries during the struggle.
As part of a search operation, the two suspects were located by a police patrol. During a subsequent search of their persons, a knife was found on one of the men and seized. On the instructions of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the knife was confiscated and a report was filed.
On the afternoon of Wednesday 17 June, a report was received in Canach concerning a man who had allegedly verbally abused children. During a search operation, the suspect was located by a police patrol. He showed clear signs of alcohol consumption.
During the police intervention, the suspect behaved uncooperatively towards the officers, insulting and threatening them and becoming physically aggressive. One officer was injured during the incident.
Due to his condition and because he posed a danger to himself and others, the man was taken into custody following a medical examination. A report was filed.
