Police Deal with Multiple Altercations, 1 Victim Taken to Hospital

On Friday 10 July 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported on a number of altercations which took place across Luxembourg on Thursday 9 July, one of which led to emergency services treating a man at the scene of an assault before taking him to hospital for further treatment.

According to the police, at around 17:00 on the afternoon of Thursday 9 July, the police were informed of a physical altercation between several people in Esch-sur-Alzette. According to initial findings, an argument had broken out between three people in connection with a found bank card. During the incident, two people allegedly assaulted a third person in order to obtain the card. Several bystanders intervened and separated those involved. No one was injured during the altercation. As the two suspects were heavily intoxicated and posed a danger to themselves and others, they were placed in the sobering-up facility following a medical examination. A report for assault was drawn up.

Later that same evening, at around 20:30, the police were informed of another altercation involving several people in front of the main entrance of the railway station in Luxembourg-Gare. When the police officers arrived, an intoxicated person was already on the ground and being restrained by security personnel. The officers initially attempted to de-escalate the situation. However, as the person again attempted to attack the security personnel and subsequently the officers, and due to their intoxicated state, the person was taken to the sobering-up facility following a medical examination until they had sobered up. During the operation, another heavily intoxicated person repeatedly interfered with police measures and was also taken into custody until they had sobered up.

Moreover, another altercation was reported to the police at around 22:00 in Luxembourg-Ville, during which a man was injured. According to initial findings, a verbal dispute had previously occurred between him and another man, which escalated into a scuffle. The victim eventually fell to the ground and was injured as a result. The man was treated at the scene by emergency services and was subsequently taken to hospital for further treatment. According to initial information, the injured person was temporarily in a critical condition; however, there is no longer any danger to his life. A report was drawn up and further investigations were launched to clarify the exact circumstances of the altercation.
