On Sunday 13 September 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported it had dealt with nearly 75 incidents involving noise disturbances (around 40 cases), fights, disputes, and public disturbances between the evening of Saturday 12 and the morning of 13 September.
According to the police in most cases, the situation had already calmed down by the time police patrols arrived or could still be resolved at the scene.
However, this was not the case in some incidents.
At around 18:30, officers were called because of a heavily intoxicated person who was taken to the Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrisch in Esch-sur-Alzette, where the person caused a disturbance. The individual was agitated and insulted hospital staff. As the person could not be calmed down and, due to their condition, posed a danger to themselves and others, they were taken into custody to sober up.
On the morning of Sunday 13 September, at around 08:00, police were alerted to a person reportedly lying on the tram tracks near Place de Paris. When officers arrived, they found the person lying on the tracks and shouting loudly. The man repeatedly refused to comply with officers’ instructions to leave the tram tracks and became increasingly aggressive. Due to his intoxicated state and the resulting danger to himself and others, he was also taken into custody to sober up following a medical examination.
At around midnight on Sunday 13 September police were called to a fight at a venue on Place du Marché in Petingen. When officers arrived, the suspects had already fled in their vehicles. Initial findings indicate that an argument broke out between two groups, comprising a total of seven guests. The incident initially involved a bottle being thrown inside the venue, followed by physical violence. Three people who were not part of either group were injured, including the venue manager, who had attempted to intervene and break up the dispute. One injured person was taken to hospital for a medical check-up.
The group involved in the incident fled in two vehicles in the direction of the border. An immediate search operation was unsuccessful. Further investigations have been launched.
Additionally, at approximately 21:45 on Saturday 12 September police were alerted to a vehicle driving erratically on Rue de Colmar-Berg in Mersch. A police patrol located and stopped the vehicle on Rue Mersch in Angelsberg. During the inspection, a breathalyser test was carried out and returned a positive result. The driver’s licence was confiscated.
At the same time, police received a report of a physical altercation between a driver and his female passenger on Rue de la Gare in Beles. According to initial findings, a witness noticed that the driver of the vehicle in front of him was hitting his passenger. When the two got out of the vehicle and continued the physical altercation beside it, the witness intervened and restrained the driver on the ground until officers arrived.
The driver and passenger were taken to the police station for further proceedings. As the driver showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol, a breathalyser test was carried out. It returned a positive result, and a driving ban was issued.
During a security search of the driver, a small quantity of cannabis was found and confiscated, and a report was drawn up. In addition, the inspection found that the vehicle did not have valid insurance. On the orders of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the vehicle was seized.
