On Monday 14 September 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported a theft from a vehicle in Schouweiler and several suspected attempted copper thefts in Mersch and along a railway line between Bettembourg and Livange, taking place in the past 24 hours.
On Sunday 13 September 2026, police received a report of a theft from a vehicle parked near Schouweiler railway station. According to initial information, an unknown perpetrator smashed one of the vehicle's side windows and searched the interior.
The perpetrator stole a card holder containing personal documents and several bank cards.
Later that evening, police received a report of two unknown men on a construction site on Allée John W Leonard in Mersch. The two fled when officers arrived, but police located both suspects nearby shortly afterwards.
At the construction site, officers found several copper cables that had already been rolled up and apparently prepared for removal.
During the night to Monday, a police patrol carrying out a security check along a railway line between Bettembourg and Livange discovered several cut copper cables which officers suspected had been prepared for later removal.
According to initial information, unknown individuals had gained access to the site and cut the copper cables. Officers also discovered signs of tampering with barriers or access points at several locations.
Police filed reports in connection with all three incidents, with investigations into the railway incident ongoing.
