Luxembourg’s Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of State and High Commission for National Protection (HCPN) have announced that a test of the “LU-Alert” population warning and information system will take place on Monday 5 October 2026, as part of the national resilience days running from 5 to 10 October.
In addition to the monthly test of the siren network, an audible alert via the cellular broadcast alert channel (Cell Broadcast, CB) will be tested at around 11:00 on the mobile phones of people present across Luxembourg. As this is a test alert, no action or specific response is required.
The authorities noted that the test will last only a few seconds, adding: “This test lasts a few seconds and can save lives in the event of real danger.”
All mobile devices connected to a Luxembourg mobile network antenna at the time the test message is transmitted via Cell Broadcast are targeted.
The authorities warned that the audible alert will be very loud and therefore very intrusive. The alert will appear as a priority notification on mobile device screens, including when devices are in silent or locked mode, and will be accompanied by a sound and vibration. The audible signal will stop after a few seconds.
The authorities use this alert channel when an event is likely to pose a significant or imminent danger to the population and when immediate action is expected.
As with tests previously carried out by other public authorities, this time the HCPN will send the test message via Cell Broadcast. The message will also be issued simultaneously through the “LU-Alert” mobile application, the LU-Alert website and the data.public.lu website.
Additional information and frequently asked questions are available on the LU-Alert website.
