On Friday 19 December 2025, the City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL) presented the approval of the final project by the Municipal Council for the construction of a major new sports complex in Luxembourg-Hamm.

The project concerns the development of a sports complex located at 157B, rue de Hamm, on a site covering approximately twelve hectares. The planned facilities include a “World Athletics Construction Category 1” athletics stadium, a large sports hall, a weightlifting hall and a landscaped public park. The complex is intended to host national and international sporting events while also offering extensive sports and leisure infrastructure for the public.

According to VDL, the project will be implemented in three main construction phases. Phase one, scheduled to begin in spring 2026 and run until May 2027, will focus on site preparation works, including earthworks, servicing of the land and installation of the construction site infrastructure. This phase was approved by the Municipal Council in October 2025 and carries an estimated cost of €16.5 million, including fees and taxes.

Phase two, expected to start in autumn 2026, will involve the construction of the athletics stadium. The intervention area will cover around 6.1 hectares, including 3.9 hectares dedicated to the athletics facilities, 1.8 hectares allocated to a public park and 0.4 hectares reserved for bus platforms. Part of the area used during construction will later be converted into a temporary parking facility.

Phase three, the final stage of the project, will include the development of additional sports and support infrastructure. This phase will comprise two football pitches, including a UEFA Class 2 competition pitch and a synthetic training pitch, as well as several multi-purpose sports halls, club and conference facilities, a fitness and weight-training area, and a brasserie integrated into the public park. A large underground car park and complementary technical infrastructure are also planned.

Construction of the buildings is scheduled to begin in November 2026, while outdoor landscaping works, including the athletics facilities, are expected to start at the end of 2027. According to current projections, the entire project should be completed by April 2029. The total estimated cost of the sports complex amounts to €110.7 million, including fees and taxes, as approved by the Municipal Council on Friday.
