At the ordinary general assembly of the Association luxembourgeoise de la presse cinématographique (ALPC), members selected Weapons, directed by Zach Cregger, as the best film of 2025.

It is the first time that a horror film has received this distinction from the Luxembourg Film Critics Association.

In the film’s storyline, drawn from information published on IMDb, all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, leaving a community questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.

According to ALPC, the film stands out for its highly original and genuinely frightening narrative. The association said the story succeeds in sustaining a strong sense of suspense throughout. While blood is present, as expected in the genre, it is shown without conveying gratuitous violence. ALPC also highlighted the carefully orchestrated scenes and a particularly surprising ending, which it said elevate Weapons above many recent horror films.

The film stars Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich and Amy Madigan. Madigan recently won the Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as the eccentric Aunt Gladys in Weapons. She has also received an Academy Awards nomination in the same category.
