On Friday 9 October 2026, the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA) reported that Ruy Pinto, CEO of the LSA, and Ambassador Mario Cospito, Special Commissioner of the Italian Space Agency, had signed an extension of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) originally concluded in October 2021, on the occasion of the International Astronautical Congress (IAC).
According to the LSA, the agreement contributes to catalysing and deepening cooperation between the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Italy in the space sector.
The LSA noted that the MoU has been extended for five years and serves as a framework for cooperation, the sharing of expertise and the exchange of information between the two agencies. It also aims to strengthen collaboration by identifying projects of common interest, for example in the fields of civil space exploration and the sustainable use of space resources, as well as science, technology and their applications.
The MoU also facilitates collaboration between the two countries, academic and research institutions, and private-sector space companies. It served as the basis for the organisation of the economic mission held in May 2026 in Turin, attended by representatives of Luxembourg's Ministry of the Economy, which brought together stakeholders from the space ecosystems of both countries.
