The Luxembourg Red Cross will soon launch its “Mois du Don” (Donation Month) 2024, which aims to mobilise more than 1,300 volunteers throughout Luxembourg between 1 and 30 April 2024.

Recent crises have exacerbated the difficulties of the most vulnerable in Luxembourg as well as elsewhere in the world. The Luxembourg Red Cross emphasised it is “more committed than ever” to helping them get through these ordeals with dignity. Among the challenges that need to be addressed, the Luxembourg Red Cross noted housing, youth issues and humanitarian crises. The Donation Month initiative is an opportunity to help make a difference.

From 1 to 30 April 2024, more than 1,300 volunteers will mobilise to solicit the support of residents of the Grand Duchy on the occasion of the “Month of Donation”, with the support of a radio and digital communication campaign.

The last few years have been particularly difficult for the most vulnerable. The Red Cross mobilises for social and humanitarian causes, offering young people opportunities for the future, providing shelter to the poor and supporting refugees, wherever they are. This crucial work is made possible thanks to the essential support of our donors, by allowing our beneficiaries to access a dignified life in Luxembourg and by supporting victims of conflicts around the world,” emphasised Luc Scheer, member of the Management Committee of the Luxembourg Red Cross.

According to the Luxembourg Red Cross, during Donation Month, nearly 28 local sections get involved: volunteers make efforts to raise awareness among their loved ones of current actions and projects. By travelling through neighbourhoods and meeting their neighbours, they share their commitment and explain how everyone can help support those in need. Their commitment makes it possible to collect donations and support the Red Cross actions on-site.

For Manou Hoss, President of the Luxembourg-City local section: “Our volunteers are the beating heart of our action. Every day, their dedication and presence on the ground demonstrate a common commitment to the most vulnerable. Their hard work and investment are essential to collect the donations that allow the Luxembourg Red Cross to continue its missions.

The Donation Month campaign is entitled “Your donation, an impact” and presents portraits of beneficiaries; this helps illustrate concrete situations. Joseph, Lucie, and Pemy, for example, each benefit from support from a Red Cross service, whether it is the Emergency Shelter and Reception Service (SALU) of the Luxembourg Red Cross, social grocery stores or the “Perspectives” supervised housing service for young adults in distress.

The donations collected will be invested in three priority areas: restoring autonomy to families and individuals in difficulty through social grocery stores or day centres for people experiencing homelessness, support for young people in Luxembourg to offer them opportunities for the future, improvement of the living conditions of disadvantaged children around the world through the construction of schools and health infrastructure, and finally immediate and long-term assistance to victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters, including the reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure such as hospitals in Ukraine.

The funds received provide the Red Cross with the flexibility necessary to intervene quickly and independently where needs arise.
