The Luxembourg Red Cross has announced that on Saturday 14 June 2025, the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, it will be present in five shopping centres across Luxembourg in an effort to raise awareness on blood donations.
Teams from the Blood Transfusion Centre (CTS) of the Luxembourg Red Cross, along with volunteers, will be on hand at information stands located at Cactus shopping centres in Bertrange, Diekirch and Howald and Auchan shopping centres in Gasperich and Kirchberg. The teams will be available to answer questions, dispel misconceptions and provide information on donation procedures and how to schedule an appointment to give blood.
The BTC said: “Blood donation is essential. It helps treat people with serious illnesses, accident victims, women giving birth and patients who need plasma-based treatments. Yet many misconceptions prevent potential donors from stepping forward.”
Medical Director of the CTS, Dr Anne Schuhmacher, stressed: “Our blood stocks are currently low. Raising awareness and recruiting new donors is crucial.”
The information stands will be located at the following locations:
Bertrange - Cactus Belle Étoile (Route d’Arlon, Bertrange) from 09:00 to 17:00;
Diekirch - Cactus Ingeldorf (4 Route d’Ettelbrück, Ingeldorf) from 09:00 to 17:00;
Gasperich - Auchan Cloche d’Or (25 Bd Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen, Luxembourg-Gasperich) from 09:00 to 17:00;
Kirchberg - Auchan (5 Rue Alphonse Weicker, Luxembourg-Kirchberg) from 09:00 to 17:00;
Howald - Cactus (40 Rue des Scillas, Luxembourg-Howald) from 09:00 to 12:00.
Guaranteeing stock levels of blood and derived blood products such as plasma or platelets for injured or sick people in Luxembourg is the raison d'être of the CTS, which is located at 44 Boulevard Joseph II in Luxembourg-Ville.
