On Thursday 26 June 2025, the Agence du Bénévolat (Volunteer Agency) announced the appointment of its new president, Marc Thill.
Marc Thill succeeds Dr Martine Mergen as President.
The Agence du Bénévolat noted that, during her almost four-year mandate, Dr Mergen supported the agency in a "new dynamic". She actively supported the development of concrete projects, reportedly positioning the agency as "an incubator of volunteer initiatives", such as the digitalisation of the benevolat.lu platform, which facilitates exchanges between associations and volunteers, and promoting volunteering for the elderly, in response to social isolation.
"As a doctor, I am particularly committed to volunteering for seniors. It is a cause close to my heart," the outgoing president said. "The agency plays a vital role in this area, and I am happy to continue contributing to its work". Dr Mergen will continue to dedicate her time to the Agence du Bénévolat as Vice-President.
New President Marc Thill, who previously served as Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Agence du Bénévolat, is also Secretary General of the Board of Directors of the Fondation École de Musique de l'UGDA. He has been active in the charitable sector for several years. According to the Agence du Bénévolat, Mr Thill thus possesses in-depth knowledge of the field and experience in volunteering.
"I consider the continuation of the work undertaken by the Agence du Bénévolat to be essential. Volunteering plays a key role in our modern and multicultural society. Volunteering incorporates the social component of community life and creates a bond between people to promote coexistence in all existing communities in Luxembourg," stated Marc Thill.
The Agence du Bénévolat expressed its gratitude to Dr Martine Mergen for her "valuable commitment" and said it wished Marc Thill success in his new role.
Since 2002, the Agence du Bénévolat, in agreement with the current Ministry of Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees, has been working to promote and recognise volunteering in all its forms.
