On Monday 8 December 2025, SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde announced that, as part of a joint solidarity initiative with Auchan Retail Luxembourg, a total of €19,500 had been raised to support vulnerable children in southern Ethiopia through their back-to-school fundraising campaign.

Organised with the support of Nhood Luxembourg and Iko Real Estate from Thursday 11 to Saturday 27 September 2025 in the three Auchan hypermarkets (Kirchberg, Opkorn Differdange and Cloche d’Or) and in Auchan Drive stores, this solidarity campaign has been ongoing since 2008 and once again was dedicated to children in southern Ethiopia.

During this two-week period, a total of €19,500 was collected across the three sites, including €1,170 generated through the sale of solidarity school supply products.

The funds will contribute to a multi-year project launched this autumn in the Moyale district on the border between Ethiopia and Kenya, focusing on nutrition, agriculture, livelihoods and gender equality for more than 300 households with young children suffering from acute malnutrition and for 3,500 pregnant or breastfeeding women.

The donation meeting took place on Friday 28 November 2025 in the presence of Jean-Luc Carré, Commercial Director of Auchan Retail Luxembourg, Matthias Santerre, Deputy Director of Auchan Kirchberg, campaign managers and cashiers, as well as Sophie Glesener, Director of SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde, and Anne Schweizer, Head of Partnerships for SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde.

Sophie Glesener and Anne Schweizer highlighted "the vital importance of such projects, supported by Auchan Luxembourg’s annual solidarity campaign, which act in a comprehensive manner for the most vulnerable, in particular women and children, whose numbers continue to grow as food crises and poverty expand amid ongoing conflicts, climate crises and displacement".
