On Saturday 27 June 2026, basketball players, public figures and supporters came together for the "Lux Hoops for Hope" charity game at Hall Omnisports Alain Marchetti in Steinsel, raising funds for Kriibskrank Kanner.
The "Lux Hoops for Hope" charity game saw a Luxembourg selection, coached by national team head coach Ken Diederich, take on Team Stars, a selection of foreign players competing in the Men's Enovos League. The home team featured several national team players, including Dino Ceman, Luke Jungers, Ivor Kuresevic, Max Logelin, Alex Laurent, David Rocha and Yannick Verbeelen.
Scott Morton, an Amicale Steinsel player and co-organiser of the event, told Chronicle.lu what inspired the initiative: "I've organised other charity events before, including shaving my head to raise money and donating my hair to Think Pink. A friend of mine lost his son to cancer some time ago, so this is a cause that's very close to my heart.” He added: "This event came together because the national team had games coming up, and I thought it would be a great opportunity to play alongside some of the guys I've been competing against over the past few years. At the same time, it was a chance to bring the basketball community together and raise money for a cause that means a lot to me.”
Luxembourg held a narrow 32-31 advantage at half-time before the entertaining contest ended in a 67-67 draw. National team guard Luke Jungers led the Grand Duchy side with sixteen points, while Alex Laurent (ten) and Davy Rocha (nine) also made significant scoring contributions.
Despite the hot conditions inside the hall, several hundred spectators attended the event throughout the evening. While many sought relief from the heat, the atmosphere remained lively, with children enthusiastically taking part in the activities organised around the game. These included shooting contests before tip-off, a children's challenge after the first quarter, a four-shot competition at half-time and a raffle draw following the third quarter, helping turn the charity fixture into a family-friendly community event.
Scott Morton also shared his hopes for the fundraising effort: "I'm hoping we'll raise between €5,000 and €10,000. I'd be very happy with €10,000, but any money we raise for such a good cause is more than there was before."
