The Optimists Cricket Club (OCC) has announced events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the club on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 June 2026.

On Friday OCC will host Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) for a T20 match starting at 18:00 at the Pierre Werner Cricket Ground in Walferdange, with a BBQ from 17:30 and a fully stocked bar available.

On Saturday 6 June, a 40-over match will take place at the same venue, starting at 10:30, with curry, BBQ and drinks available throughout the day, alongside various activities including bat-making demonstrations and a bouncy castle.

According to OCC, a 50th anniversary dinner will be held in the evening at Porta Nova, featuring guest speaker Lord Ian Botham, widely regarded as one of England’s greatest all-rounders of the 1980s. He will deliver a speech followed by a Q&A session joined by former England players Matthew Hoggard and Monty Panesar.

Ticket costs €120 per person. Reservation is available by email: Optimists50@hotmail.com.

OCC also noted that ticket numbers are limited and that a pre-sale is being offered to past and present club members and their guests.
