On Monday 15 September 2025, Italian RegTech startup Aptus.AI announced the launch of its operations in Luxembourg.
The company stated in a press release that it has spent its early years pursuing a "strategic path" aimed at validating the effectiveness of its proprietary technology in the world of regulatory compliance in Italy.
Aptus.AI's platform is based on a patented technology that converts legal texts into machine-readable format, i.e. into structured data optimised for artificial intelligence (AI) analysis. This foundation powers a generative AI assistant that, according to the company, can provide "instant, accurate and verifiable answers", detect and notify regulatory updates in real time and send daily email alerts tailored to an organisation's areas of interest. Professionals can quickly and precisely navigate thousands of regulations, compare successive versions of texts, anticipate regulatory impacts and draft legal or compliance documents. Aptus.AI added that it does not use clients' confidential data to train its models.
The AI Assistant is designed specifically for legal and compliance teams, with the aim of helping financial institutions and professional firms navigate regulatory change. The company stated that the platform can automate time-consuming compliance tasks while allowing experts to focus on strategic decision-making.
After consolidating its position in the legal and compliance sector in Italy, Aptus.AI is now establishing a presence in Luxembourg, bringing its technology to what it described as "one of Europe's most strategic and highly regulated financial hubs". The company said it intends to support banks, insurers, asset managers, law firms and in-house legal and compliance teams in addressing regulatory complexity.
"We are excited to establish our presence in Luxembourg, a market known for its pioneering role in financial services and regulatory innovation," said Andrea Tesei, co-founder and CEO of Aptus.AI. "With its exceptional concentration of financial institutions, Luxembourg is the ideal place to demonstrate how Aptus.AI can help in-house legal departments, compliance teams and regulatory professionals move beyond the burden of regulation and turn compliance into a true competitive advantage thanks to artificial intelligence."
Founded in Pisa by Andrea Tesei and Lorenzo De Mattei, with the support of CDP Venture Capital and the VC fund P101, and active since 2021, Aptus.AI is backed by investors such as Azimut Investments SA, the Luxembourg branch of the Azimut Group.
The company has also participated in several European AI initiatives. For example, in 2023, Aptus.AI was selected for the Chat-EUR-Lex project under the NGI Search programme, and it currently serves as "AI Legal Assistant" in the LLMs4EU - Large Language Models for the European Union project.
In 2024, Aptus.AI received the "Innovation of the Year" award, granted by a jury of financial experts, at the Fintech Awards that year.
