On Tuesday 20 January 2026, Luxembourg’s employment agency, ADEM, reported that there were 21,090 resident jobseekers available for work at the end of December 2025; the unemployment rate remained stable at 6.2%.
ADEM noted that the increase in jobseekers observed over twelve months (up by 8% or 1,558) was notably driven by the most qualified jobseekers, including higher education graduates, whose numbers have grown by 17.7% over the year.
According to ADEM, different age groups differ slightly, with increases ranging from 7.1% among those over 45 years to 8.9% among jobseekers aged 30 to 44. The increase observed among young people stood at 8.1%.
At the level of occupations sought, the data confirm the trends observed in previous months, with the most marked increases seen in secretarial and assistance occupations, as well as information technology (IT) and accounting fields.
Analysis by STATEC, Luxembourg’s national statistics institute, confirmed that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained stable at 6.2%, while the number of residents registering with ADEM for a job search rose by 20.9% (+2,815) compared with December 2024.
The number of resident jobseekers benefiting from full unemployment benefits reportedly decreased by 18.6% over the year to 8,739 by the end of December 2025. However, major changes to ADEM’s information systems since mid-November 2025 influenced this figure by affecting the accounting date for newly eligible jobseekers.According to the agency, these technological changes may continue to create catch-up and smoothing effects in the coming months.
The number of beneficiaries of an employment measure reached 4,269, representing an increase of 3.8% compared with December 2024.
During December 2025, employers declared 2,555 vacant positions to ADEM, representing an increase of 7.1% compared to December 2024. The stock of available jobs decreased over the year to 5,472 positions, representing a drop of 7.8% compared with December 2024. Accounting roles, secretarial and assistance roles, along with IT roles recorded the largest declines during the month.
